Ryan Ann Hunter is the penname for us--Pamela D. Greenwood
and Elizabeth G. Macalaster. We met at a writer's group and
soon discovered that we shared a sense of wonder about the
world of nature, science, and technology. We began to collaborate
on nonfiction picture books focusing on these topics. Our
goal? To get readers to take a closer look at the world around
them, to ask how and why!
Pamela lives near Seattle, Elizabeth in New England. Though
we are miles apart, between the phone, email, and real-life
meetings, we get the job done!

Here we are

pads
that will keep this historic building from shaking during
earthquakes.

TRY
COLLABORATING
It's another way to break into the adult markets.
- Find someone to complement your strengths and offset your weaknesses.
- Pick
a genre that's different from your own writing.
- Brainstorm.
Then use a work style that feels right.
- Stick to a schedule.
- Trust
the new voice you have found.

WRITING
TIPS
Hey kids! Juice up your school report:
- Ask questions!
When we wrote DIG A TUNNEL,
we wondered how many lights the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel
had to keep it bright.
- Make
comparisons!
Don't just say the Arctic wind is strong, say it could
blow you over.
- Start
with a bang!
Grab hold of the reader in your first sentence.
