INTO THE SKY

Take a peek inside:

In September 1998, School Library Journal said:this book captures the excitement inherent in creating huge structures that soar above their surroundings.

On September 11, 2001 a terrible thing happened in New York City. The twin towers of the World Trade Center were attacked and destroyed.

Ironworkers who built the towers worked alongside policemen, firemen, and other rescue workers to help clear the debris.

We asked Dr. Lynn Beedle of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat:

Why have people built such tall structures?
When many, many people need to get together to conduct
business, you can do that in skyscrapers.

Will people continue to build skyscrapers?
Yes! As long as people want to live and work in cities.

How safe is it to live and work in skyscrapers?
I'd rather be in a skyscraper than a low-rise building. Why?
Skyscrapers are engineered!
